Sermon Questions

ENGAGE

READ

REFLECT & RESPOND
● Discuss the elements of a covenant. Why did God choose to re-establish His
relationship with Noah and his family through a covenant? What is the difference
between this covenant with Noah and the original relationship with Adam and
Eve? How has sin affected both covenants?
● Why is Canaan punished for his father’s wrongdoing? Discuss how our actions
can affect future generations. How does God’s declaration of Himself in Exodus
34:6-7 and the example of Rahab, the Canaanite, in Hebrews 11:31 encourage
us in this regard?
● How does Shem and Japheth’s covering of their father’s nakedness reflect God’s
covering of Adam and Eve’s nakedness in Genesis 3? Read I Peter 4:8 and
Galatians 6:1. What does this teach us about how we can minister to others in
their sin?
● How does the concept of blessings and curses in this chapter play out in the
history of the Israelites and the Canaanites? Read Deuteronomy 7:1-9 and
Joshua 24:7-13. How might these blessings and curses have encouraged its
original audience?
● How does Joshua 24:13 relate to our present and future hope? How does the
promise of I Thessalonians 4:16-18 encourage us today?
