Believe: Be Satisfied

John 4:1—42

ENGAGE

  • When you were growing up, were there people you were told not to associate with? Why?

READ

  • Read or summarize the passage.
  • Share any observations or questions from the passage or the sermon.

REFLECT

  • It seems like the woman tries to change the subject after Jesus reveals the source of her shame and social status. What subject does she turn to in order to direct the conversation away from her situation? (Verses 19-20)
  • What do you think changed in this woman’s life?  How does a changed life impact the credibility of a message?  Why did her conversation with Jesus have such an impact upon her village (verse 39)?

RESPOND

  • How does man normally respond when he feels led to go deeper in his faith or when he feels conviction from God’s Word? What do you see in Jesus’ encounter with this woman that will make man less defensive when He exposes man’s sin? Read John 3:16-17 and John 7:37-38.
  • “True worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth.” (v. 23) What do you think it means to worship God this way? How can you apply this to your own worship?
