James 4:1-12
No Compromise In Repentance

Sermon Questions

Reflect:

  • Who or what causes fights and quarrels in the workplace, the home, or in the church?

  • When Christians act on their selfish desires, what are they forgetting? (verse 2)

  • How does verse 4 cause you to take your sin more seriously?

  • Meditate on the great truth of verse 6: “He gives more grace.”  Why is that truth particularly precious to you today?

  • Trace out the stages of genuine repentance that James lays out in verse 7-9.  What is the sign of true repentance? (verse 11)

Respond:

  • Consider a conflict you have been involved in.  What did it reveal about your heart?  How did it affect your prayers?

  • Why do you think churches so often are undermined or split by conflicts?

  • What could happen if we do not live out verses 4, 6, and 7-9?

Pray:

  • Use verse 4 to confess your sinfulness

to God.

  • Use verses 7-9 to genuinely repent

of your sins.

  • Use verses 6 and 10 to praise God for His forgiveness and grace.
